The Indian Removal Act of 1830
The Indian Removal Act of 1830 called for the Indians in the eastern United States to move to Oklahoma. Soldiers forced 17,000 Cherokees out of their homes in a removal that became known as the “Trail of Tears.” Cherokee men, women and children were placed in concentration camps where they were treated harshly, rarely fed and exposed to disease...
